The event will highlight how the European Arctic has become a strategic area for the realisation of the EU Green Deal, where Arctic peoples provide unique knowledge to develop fossil-free energy solutions and critical goods essential to the decarbonisation and energy sovereignty of Europe. Discussion will also focus on the new security situation in the European Arctic due to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and the importance of safeguarding stability and security of supply in the European Arctic. As the mandate of the current European Parliament and College of Commissioners is coming to an end, this event is also an opportunity to take stock of the implementation of the EU Arctic Policy and other EU, national and regional initiatives to foster sustainable development and build resilient communities in the European Arctic.

Gathering EU, national, and regional representatives, the event will be an opportunity to reflect on how to reinforce cooperation across borders to ensure a prosperous, attractive and peaceful Arctic region. More information about the event will follow soon.

On behalf of the Council of Oulu Region and the Arctic Task Force of the CPMR Baltic Sea Commission, in collaboration with the Finnish Delegation to the Conference of Parliamentarians of the Arctic Region.
